Our last stop on our vacation was a day and a half in Huntsville, Alabama. We didn’t have this stop on our itinerary but we were losing steam on the drive home from Florida and decided to spend the night at The Westin Huntsville. We adored this hotel. The location cannot be beat. It is literally on top of very nice restaurants and surrounded by great shopping. The lobby was gorgeous and smelled exactly like an Anthropologie volcano candle- check it out if you don’t know what I’m referring to. 😉 The staff was top-notch, the pool is beautiful and the room was very clean and comfortable. We think this would be a great couples weekend getaway!
The next morning, we ventured out to the Huntsville Botanical Garden knowing Charlotte would have so much fun there. At the garden, you immediately notice the lush, gorgeous landscaping and architecture of the buildings. There’s a butterfly house with over 1500 butterflies and several turtles and fish as well. It was definitely a highlight of Charlotte’s entire trip. There are many walking paths, a large playground area and lakes stocked with brightly colored fish and more turtles. There’s a gift shop and restaurant on-site as well. For around $28, we definitely felt it was worth the trip.
You also can’t miss the space museum when in Huntsville. The rocket is visible in many different areas of the city and something we definitely want to explore when Charlotte’s a bit older.
While we enjoyed the nature, shopping and food of Huntsville, what we noticed and were most fond of was not any of those things. The people of Alabama were incredibly kind. We noticed this during our brief visit in Montgomery and longer visit in Huntsville. Being from the south-ish in Kentucky, people are generally friendly but Alabama took this to the next level. We will never forget all the smiles and kind words we heard there. I highly recommend making the stop if you’re passing through.
